To help you narrow your search, you can click 'refine search' to access some predefined categories of results. You can use these check boxes to reduce the number of results returned. If you can identify that particular checkboxs are related to the information that you are looking for then you can get the results that relate to those checkboxes.
For example, if you entered ‘canada’ as your search term, you would get a display similar to the one below:
If you were interested in the community profile for Canada, then you would check the box beside 'Community Profile (14)' and then press ‘Enter’ or click the ‘Refine search’ button. The number in brackets indicates how many results will be returned if you select that checkbox. You can check more than one checkbox to get results related to more then one category.
If you check 2 or more checkboxes, you can retreive all results related to your terms that are in one 'or' any other category you have selected. Alternatively, you can retreive all results that are members of one category 'and' any others that you have selected. You can choose which to use by making a selection from the 'or'/'and' radio buttons below the 'Refine Search' button. As a general rule, checkboxes in the same column are distinct categories that do not overlap. So, if you were to check 'community profiles' and 'highlight tables' and select the 'and' radio button, there will be zero results that are members of both categories.
If you were interested in the number of people between the ages of 15 and 65 in Canada, then the tables highlighting the ages and sex of everyone in Canada would lead you towards the information that you are looking for. Simply click the boxes beside ‘Age and sex (948)’ and 'Highlight Tables (1974)'to check them, select the 'and' radio button and then press ‘Enter’ or click the ‘Refine search’ button.
