It achieves this by using pseudonyms or words with similar meanings and ‘stemming’ or chopping prefix and suffix to obtain the root word ("stemmer", "stemming" and "stemmed" are reduced to "stem") to obtain results based on the meaning of your original search terms. This greatly increases the chance of finding what you are looking for. Therefore, it is not neccessary to enter“smaller metropolitan areas”, but instead just enter the terms directly.
